16: Third Day: Offerings Tour 2000
To say this concert was practically ordained by God might be an understatement. It seems to me as if He had his hand in every aspect of this show. Lets start at the beginning…
Mom always made every effort to take us to all the concerts, especially since she loved going herself. This particular show was held in Phoenix, AZ, where I have an uncle living. So we decided to try to go. However, at some point before the show, we discovered, much to our disappointment, that it was completely sold out. Not surprising as this was around the time Third Day was beginning to become even more popular.
Despite that, we decided to drive on up to the show, just in case. There was a small, even miniscule chance, that we’d even find a scalper, but we tried anyway. So after a two hour drive up, and another hour around the city to find the venue, we went and got some dinner, prayed that we’d get a hold of some tickets, and left for the show. When we arrived, the line was unbelievable. Walking around, we found not one person selling tickets! Of course, we were beginning to become rather unsure that we’d even get in. Then, at complete random, a stranger walked up to us and asked if we were interested in buying a pair of tickets. We said yes, we’d love to, but there was five of us, and only two tickets. So mom decided to let the boys *my brother and fiancĂ©, at the time* go in. We, hesitantly, agreed. But then, another stranger walked up offering us THREE tickets! Of course we were so excited, we all got to go into the show together!
If my memory suits me correctly, this particular show opened with Kendall Payne and the Paul Coleman Trio. To be honest, I don’t remember so very much about the show, but the events prior to and following the show kind of stick in my mind a lot more.
I do remember it being a fantastic show, Kendall sang “God of Wonders” with them. That’s about all I remember.
Anyway, afterwards we all went out and got coffee. I didn’t want to admit it, but during the show, I felt a little tickle in my throat. I blamed it on allergies, but afterwards, it hit me like a ton of bricks. I came down with a very high fever, so high that I was hallucinating. Yeah, it was a rotten night, I was up all night, sweating and freaking out. My mom and fiancĂ© were up with me, but there wasn’t much to do.
It may have been a bad way to end a great night, but I’ll never forget how God allowed us, and blessed us so much, to go in and see that show.
