Ever since childhood, I’ve felt the pull to missions work. And when I say childhood, I mean I was about 11 years old when I first realized this was what the Lord was calling me to.
I was involved in and still have been involved in missions trips of all types. Day trips, mostly, but also some overnighters. For a long time I’ve wanted to attend the Ireland missions trip with my church, Calvary Chapel of Tucson. I never have though, for personal reasons.
However, recently I’ve felt that pull to missions stronger than ever.
I feel the Lord strongly leading me to go to Bible college. But not just any Bible college, I feel led to go overseas and study. The cost of this is obviously out of my budget. I have been looking at Scotland (International Christian College, clearly my first choice), York (Calvary Chapel Bible College of York), and Spain (Calvary Chapel Bible College of Mallorca). More and more, I'm feeling led toward Spain. Partly because my ancestry is in Spain and also because I feel a tug at my heart for the lost of the world, not just in Spain. I feel like I need to study overseas to get a feel for the different cultures I may work with as a missionary.
I've come up with ways to try and make some extra money but I feel I will still largely depend upon donations from the church. I’m also looking more to go to Spain than anywhere else.
For York, I'm looking at $5000 for one semester. That includes room, board, tuition, food, and by my calculations, a plane ticket, overnight stay in London (if necessary), and travel to and from London when I leave. It does not include the cost of the required 10-day mission trip I will have to attend. I will leave that to the Lord to provide.
For Spain , the cost is substantially more. Per semester $3500 for tuition, room, board, food. $600-1000 for round trip flight, and another $1000-1500 for fees (visa, application) and mission trip.
Scotland is roughly about the same price as Spain but the Visa authorities would like to see in my bank account that I can cover costs for up to 12 months so I would have to have at least $10,000 in there before going.
It all seems so overwhelming but I know God will provide if He is leading me. I would really appreciate your prayers for me as I step out in faith and depend on God's leading for this.
